Terms of Service

1. About RepoVelocity

RepoVelocity ("we," "us," or "our") is a GitHub repository discovery and ranking service operated by IANternet Media. The service indexes publicly available GitHub repositories, computes proprietary ranking and credibility scores, and presents them through a web interface at repovelocity.com.

The ranking boards are free to browse and require no account. We also offer optional accounts, created through GitHub, which add features such as saved bookmarks and repository tracking, and an optional paid membership that raises the limits on those features. Sections 4 and 5 govern those; if you never create an account, they do not apply to you.

RepoVelocity is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by GitHub, Inc. or Microsoft Corporation.

2. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using RepoVelocity (the "Service"), you confirm that you are at least 13 years of age and agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). Creating an account or buying a membership is also acceptance of these Terms, and for either of those you must additionally be old enough to enter a binding contract where you live. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. We will note the effective date at the top of this page.

3. Use of the Service

3.1 Permitted Use

You may use RepoVelocity to:

• Browse, search, and discover open-source GitHub repositories
• View ranking data, Signal Scores, and trend information
• Link to individual repository pages from third-party sites
• Use the information for personal, educational, or commercial research purposes

3.2 Prohibited Use

You may not:

• Scrape, crawl, or systematically download content from the Service in ways that exceed normal browsing behaviour or that place unreasonable load on our infrastructure
• Use automated tools to make repeated requests to our API endpoints without prior written permission
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract our proprietary scoring algorithms beyond what is disclosed in our public documentation
• Use the Service to harass, defame, or misrepresent any individual, organisation, or open-source project
• Circumvent or interfere with any security, rate-limiting, or access-control mechanisms
• Use the Service in violation of any applicable law or regulation
• Represent RepoVelocity data as originating from GitHub or any other third party

3.3 Newsletter

The rankings page offers an optional newsletter sign-up. Submitting that form is your consent to receive the RepoVelocity newsletter at the address you give, and it requires no account. Every issue carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect without needing to contact us. The mailing list is kept separately from any account you may have — see the Privacy Policy.

4. Accounts

4.1 Creating an Account

Browsing RepoVelocity requires no account. If you want saved bookmarks, folders, or repository tracking, you can create one — and the only way to do so is by authorising RepoVelocity through GitHub OAuth. There is no separate password, and we never ask you to create one.

By signing in you confirm that the GitHub account you are using is yours and that you are entitled to use it. Creating a RepoVelocity account requires a GitHub account, which is subject to GitHub's own terms — we are not a party to that relationship.

We read your GitHub profile, including your email address, and store it against your account. What we store and why is set out in the Privacy Policy; by creating an account you accept that processing.

4.2 Your Responsibility

You are responsible for activity that happens under your account. Because sign-in runs through GitHub, the security of your account follows the security of your GitHub account — we strongly recommend two-factor authentication there. You can revoke RepoVelocity's access at any time from your GitHub authorised-applications settings, which prevents further sign-ins.

One account per person. Do not share your session with others, and do not use automated means to create accounts.

4.3 Saved Content

Bookmarks, folders, and tracked repositories that you create remain yours. We store them to provide the Service back to you, and we do not publish them, sell them, or show them to other members.

We do not warrant that saved content will never be lost. The Service is provided as described in Sections 8 and 9, and you should not treat RepoVelocity as the sole record of anything you cannot afford to lose.

4.4 Closing Your Account

You may delete your account at any time from the Account panel in the sidebar, after signing in. You will be asked to type your GitHub handle to confirm. Deletion removes your profile data and everything saved against it, takes effect immediately, and is permanent — we cannot restore an account afterwards.

If you have a paid membership, it is cancelled with Stripe before anything is deleted. Should that cancellation fail, we abort and delete nothing, rather than remove your record while a subscription is still charging you.

There is one gap we would rather name than let you discover: if you delete your account in the short window between completing checkout and Stripe confirming it to us, we may not yet know the subscription exists, and it would not be cancelled. If you have just paid and immediately want to delete, contact us instead so we can check.

Administrator accounts cannot be deleted from the panel, and the panel is unreachable if you cannot sign in. In either case contact us using the details in Section 13 and we will action it. The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what is deleted and what sits outside it.

4.5 Suspension and Termination by Us

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these Terms — in particular Section 3.2 — or that is being used in a way that threatens the stability or integrity of the Service. Where the breach is not serious and circumstances allow, we will try to warn you first. If we terminate a paid membership for reasons other than your breach, we will refund the unused portion of the period you have already paid for.

5. Membership and Billing

5.1 Free and Paid Plans

Accounts start on a free plan, and the free plan is not a trial — it does not expire and it does not require a card. Paid membership is optional and raises usage limits; the features and limits of each plan, and the current price, are set out on the membership page, which is authoritative if it ever disagrees with a description elsewhere on the site.

5.2 Payment Processing

All payments are processed by Stripe. You enter your card details on Stripe's own checkout page, and they are never transmitted to or stored on RepoVelocity's servers. Your use of Stripe's checkout is additionally subject to Stripe's terms and privacy policy. We store a Stripe customer reference and your plan and renewal details so we know what your account is entitled to.

You confirm that you are authorised to use the payment method you supply. Prices are stated in the currency shown at checkout and exclude any taxes that may apply in your jurisdiction unless stated otherwise.

5.3 Renewal

Membership is a recurring subscription. It renews automatically at the end of each billing period, at the then-current price, and continues until you cancel. By subscribing you authorise that recurring charge.

5.4 Cancelling

You can cancel at any time through the Stripe customer portal, linked from your account page — no email to us is required, and we will not ask you to justify it. Cancelling stops the next charge. You keep member access until the end of the period you have already paid for, and then return to the free plan.

Nothing you saved is deleted when you cancel. Bookmarks and folders are free-plan features and are unaffected. If you were tracking more repositories than the free plan allows, those stay stored and readable; you simply cannot add more until you are back under the free allowance or rejoin.

5.5 Refunds

Because you keep access for the period you paid for, we do not automatically refund a partial period when you cancel. If something has gone wrong — you were charged in error, charged after cancelling, or the Service was materially unavailable for a sustained period — contact us and we will put it right. Statutory refund and cancellation rights that apply where you live are not affected by anything in this section.

5.6 Price and Plan Changes

We may change prices or what a plan includes. If a change affects the price you are being charged, we will give you reasonable notice before it takes effect on your renewal, so that you can cancel first if you would rather not continue. A price change never applies retroactively to a period you have already paid for.

5.7 Failed Payments

If a payment fails, Stripe retries it over several days. We do not cut off access on the first failed attempt — member access continues until the end of the period you have paid through. If payment is not recovered by then, the account returns to the free plan.

6. Signal Score and Ranking Data

6.1 Nature of Scores

RepoVelocity computes a proprietary Signal Score for each tracked repository. This score is a heuristic estimate of repository credibility and engagement quality, derived from publicly observable factors including contributor activity patterns, star growth curves, commit frequency, and code-to-fork ratios.

Signal Scores and ranking positions are algorithmic outputs, not editorial judgements. They do not constitute endorsement, certification, security auditing, or professional advice of any kind.

6.2 Accuracy and Limitations

Repository data is sourced from the GitHub public API and is updated on an hourly basis. We make no guarantee that:

• Rankings, star counts, or contributor figures are current or accurate at any given moment
• The Signal Score correctly identifies inauthentic engagement in all cases
• Any particular repository is safe, well-maintained, or suitable for production use
• The Service is free from errors, omissions, or data gaps

Do not make security, investment, hiring, or procurement decisions based solely on RepoVelocity data. Always conduct your own due diligence.

6.3 Disputes Regarding Scores

If you believe a repository has been incorrectly scored or categorised, you may contact us at the address listed in Section 13. We review disputes on a best-effort basis but are not obligated to change any score or ranking.

7. Intellectual Property

7.1 Our Property

The RepoVelocity name, logo, design, scoring methodology, source code (where not separately open-sourced), and compiled ranking databases are the property of IANternet Media. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from these materials without our written consent.

7.2 Third-Party Data

Repository names, descriptions, statistics, and associated metadata displayed on RepoVelocity are sourced from GitHub's public API and remain the property of their respective owners. We display this data under GitHub's Terms of Service for API consumers. RepoVelocity does not claim ownership of any repository, its code, or its associated trademarks.

7.3 Open-Source Components

RepoVelocity is built on open-source software. Where applicable, the licences of those components govern their respective code and remain in full effect.

8. Availability and Changes

We provide the Service on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We reserve the right to:

• Modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time without prior notice
• Add or remove tracked repositories, scoring factors, or ranking boards
• Impose usage limits to protect service stability

We will endeavour to maintain reasonable uptime but do not guarantee any specific level of availability.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, RepoVelocity and all its content are provided without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free, uninterrupted, secure, or that defects will be corrected.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, IANternet Media shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the Service, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or goodwill, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total aggregate liability to you for any claims arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall not exceed USD $100 or the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, whichever is greater.

11. Links to Third-Party Sites

RepoVelocity contains links to GitHub repository pages and other external websites. These links are provided for convenience only. We do not control and are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or availability of any third-party site. Accessing third-party sites is at your own risk.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which IANternet Media operates, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation, and failing that, through binding arbitration or courts of competent jurisdiction.
